Next week, we will finish reading “Book the Third” ofTale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo.  In reading, we will focus on reviewing different genres that we have covered this year.  Please click here to look at the studyguide.  Students will have a quiz on the different genres based off of this study guide on Friday, February 23.  We will also review the skills covered in unit 4 and will take our reading unit assessment on Thursday, February 22

In writing, we will review the skills covered in unit 4 and will take our writing unit assessment on Wednesday, February 21.  Students have been working on their Fractured Fairy Tale Project.  Next week, students will continue to write their final copy.  Please check in with your student and encourage them to turn in their rough draft for editing if they have not done so already.

For homework, we will have our 100 minutes of at home reading assignment due on Monday, February 26.  Due to the short week and having a genres quiz, we will not have a spelling or TFK assignment for next week.  Please click here to see the spelling list for the week ofFebruary 26-March 2nd. The spelling homework and the quiz will be due on Friday, March 2 over the “Common Closed Syllables” list.  Spelling City Certificates can also be submitted by email to my email address.  We passed out the TimeForKids assignment the week of February 26-March 2nd.  On Friday, March 2, students will have to discuss the new magazine in class and will have a quiz over the “A Monumental Fight” article.  There will also be extra credit questions over other articles found in this week’s edition.  Please click here to see the digital version.

Please see the attached letter regarding a new, optional STAAR Prep Incentive Program that we have started in ELAR! Thank you to everyone who is taking the time to complete these optional activities.  Please see the classroom blog for easy access to these resources.
