Students did a great job on their Reading MAP test today! Some students did not complete their test in the allotted time but will be given extra time, later on, to finish up. If your student completed their assessment, a note with their new score went home today in agendas. On Tuesday, January 29, we will have MAP Math Testing first thing in the morning. Please make sure students bring a jacket as the computer lab is chilly in the morning. Please encourage your student to take their time and to do their best on these assessments.
Next week, we will focus on sensory language that can be found in different forms of text. Students will continue to review skills such as identifying plot structure, character traits, and other fiction skills as we continue our novel study on Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. We will finish “Book the First” next week! As part of our Academy enrichment, students will learn about and explore different text structures while we review genres such as literary nonfiction, biographies, and autobiographies. Extra practice has been added to BoomCards to allow students to practice this higher level skill. In Writing, we will study how to punctuate for dialogue within our writing. For our Living Wax project, students will start recording their interviews and will start to write their final product, the “Who Am I?” speech!
Since we are at the midpoint of our year, Social Studies is being taken over by our wonderful Math/Science teacher, Ms. Franz. Many of the upcoming Social Studies topics align with the upcoming Math and Science topics, but we will still integrate them into our nonfiction readings and passages for additional support. Next week, they will focus on natural resources.
We hope that you will be able to join us for Family Learning Night on Tuesday, January 29! At “Camp Learn-A-Lot”, you will get to enjoy a Skyward Review, a Reading make-and-take activity, and a Math make-and-take activity!

If you can help us prepare for Living Wax or help us during our Dress Rehearsal next week, please visit our Living Wax sign-up! The office staff is also looking for Tuesday Folder helpers. These helpers would be needed at 1 p.m. every Monday to help fill Tuesday Folders. J
