Next week, students will continue to review skills such as identifying plot structure and character traits as we continue our novel study on Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. As part of our Academy enrichment, students will learn about and explore different text structures while we review genres such as literary nonfiction, biographies, and autobiographies. Extra practice has been added to BoomCards to allow students to practice this higher level skill.
We have started a new morning spiral review routine. This was our first week and students really enjoyed it! Every morning, we highlight and review a different reading skill. This gives both the student and myself a chance to monitor how our different skills are developing. There are great review and practice activities on both Study Island and Education Galaxy which can support students as we review and deepen our knowledge of different skills. I have also uploaded new BoomCards activities to help students review the skills we are currently learning.
In Social Studies, we will cover Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will continue our study of different types of communities, such as rural, urban, and suburban. We are working on our week 17 Social Studies Weekly. Students have access to the digital copy of this newspaper on through their Ready Hub account. This newspaper is due on Tuesday, January 22. We will also have a quiz over community types on Thursday, January 24. A study guide went home on Friday, January 18. Within our Living Wax project, we are working on writing interview scripts. These will be due on Friday, January 25.
For homework, we will have spelling due on Friday, January 25 over the Complex Contractions list.
On Friday, January 25 and Tuesday, January 29, we will have MAP Testing first thing in the morning. Please make sure students bring a jacket as the computer lab is chilly in the morning. Please encourage your student to take their time and to do their best on these assessments.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
