Thank you so much to the parents who donated their time and energy to helping us with our Living Wax dress rehearsal last week and who helped us today with material preparations. We appreciate you so much and couldn’t do it without you!
This week, we will focus on the structure of a drama or play. We will work with several different dramas over the course of the week. Students will get to work with Reader Theaters in stations and will have a drama passage during the week. Students will continue to review skills such as identifying plot structure, character traits, and other fiction skills as we continue our novel study on Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. We will start “Book the Second” this week! Last week, I sent home a “Book the Frist” study guide and asked students to record the upcoming quiz in their agendas. Our “Book the First” quiz will be on Wednesday, February 6. Extra practice has been added to BoomCards to allow students to practice this higher level skill. There are also great lessons, reviews, and activities that focus on drama skills on both Education Galaxy and on Study Island Reading.
In Writing, we will study how to punctuate using commas when writing dates or listing items in a series. For our Living Wax project, students will continue to record their interviews, using the green screen app, and will type their final product, the “Who Am I?” speech! Students have been using their Google Docs accounts to type these in class/stations. For homework, we will have spelling due on Monday, February 1 1 over the Consonant Doubling list.
We also need parent helpers! The office staff is also looking for Tuesday Folder helpers. These helpers would be needed at 1 p.m. every Monday to help fill Tuesday Folders. J

Reminders:
February 7 – Living Wax Night from 6:30-7:30. Students may start arriving at 6:15. Please have students dressed and ready to go. Parents will meet in the lunchroom to enjoy a slideshow and to receive museum directions. J
February 8 – PTA Spirit Sticks on sale during lunch!
February 13- Optional Valentine mailbox decorating. Students may bring in supplies, bags, boxes, etc. To create a mailbox to hold all of their valentines. Students who would like more than 30 minutes may bring in a mailbox from home to use. J
February 14 – Valentine Party! Please click here to access our party information and see our party needs.

· Study Island Reading: Click on “Texas Programs” and select “Reading”. Then you may select any skill that you would like to work on. Start with the mini-lesson and then work through the activities! Student login information is in their blue folders.
§ The username will be your student’s first names & last name initial followed by an underscore (_) and the word “fendley”.
§ Example: Lily Moldenhauer = lilym_fendley
§ Password: 1234 or students may have changed it
§ If your student goes by a shortened version of their given name, the username will reflect that. Rebecca White = beccaw_fendley
