All About Local Government!

All About Local Government!

Today we had a very special visitor!  Rowlett City Council Member, Matt Grubisich, took time out of his day to come and talk to us about local government.  We studied the branches of government and the levels of government, such as federal, state, and local governments, earlier this year.  With our City Brochure projects, we looked even more closely at our local communities and their governments.  We enjoyed our morning with Mr. Grubisich and want to thank him for taking the time to answer all of our questions!

We will have an opportunity to be recognized by Rowlett’s City Council for all of our hard work during the City Brochure Project!  Please click here to see the letter about this optional and exciting opportunity!   We hope to see you there!

STEAM School Week 2!

Last week, we started STEAM School and look at our amazing progress! Most groups are working to finish their robotic base.  They are having to problem solve and use critical thinking skills as they try to get their base running and working in synchronization with their remote control.  One group, The Terminators, have managed to accomplish this task! Check out our pictures and a short video below!

Tip: Turn your sound down before playing the video.  J

STEAM School with VEX Robotics!

This semester, we have started STEAM School during “Power Hour” and students are loving it!  Our STEAM School days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Currently, we have four STEAM School classes in third grade.  Every teacher is hosting a different class.  There are classes on Vex Robotics, Movie Making, Chess, and Bots Boxes.  Eventually, every student will have the opportunity to attend every offered class. Every 5 weeks, students will rotate to a new STEAM School class.

My homeroom is currently attending my STEAM School class featuring Vex Robotics! Here are some pictures from our first week!  To learn more about the VEXRobotics Curriculum, please click here!

City Brochure Project Take Two!

Here are a few other examples to enjoy!

Students were able to choose to research either Garland, Rowlett, or Sachse.  Using iPads and research teams, students studied their city and then had to create informative brochures which also showcased different nonfiction text features.  Each brochure had to have information about the location of the city, its government, the types of transportation the population uses, local sites to visit, and the city's history.  Here are a few of our completed brochures!
