Snapshot for December 10

Last week, we were able to enjoy wonderful timeline presentations and a fun field trip!  Last week, students started writing their Living Wax biography rough draft.  Students are allowed to type these on Google Docs or they may submit a written copy for editing.  Every student had their Google Docs log-in taped to the inside of their green agenda today.  Last week we went over biography writing and gave students biography checklists to help them complete this task.  They have also been given time to work on these during class.  Living Wax biographies (rough draft) are due for editing on Monday, December 17.

This week, we will continue our informational unit.  Students will continue to apply their main idea and drawing conclusions skills to an informational text.  We will also continue to study nonfiction text features.  Students will have a text features quiz on Monday, Dec. 17.  A study guide went home with them today and both Education Galaxy and Study Island have text feature study resources.  We will also have fun Christmas Carol stations to connect to our field trip.  Students will be able to reenact the play using reader’s theater scripts and will be able to sequence the story to track the changes that Scrooge makes during the story.  Students will have a quiz over The Christmas Carol on December 18.  A study guide has been linked and will be sent home. In Social Studies, we will continue our Cultural Celebrations Unit, focusing on the traditions from Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas.
For homework, we will have spelling due on Friday, Dec 14 over the Common Open Syllables list.  There is also an extra credit opportunity with the passage “Reindeer”, which is due on Dec. 19.  Students must show text evidence for the assignment to be accepted.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
